A Step By Step Guide to Cleaning Your Toys

So your new vibe has arrived and you’ve quickly become acquainted. By now you know how to use your toy, but how do you take care of it?

Cleaning your toys regularly is essential for prolonging their life and keeping them functioning at their best, as well as protecting you from dirt, bacteria and infection. Solo sex might be the safest form of sex, but there’s still sexual health measures that need to be put in place during self pleasure.

All sex toys need to be cleaned before and after use. Every. Single. Time.

Even if you’re only using your vibe for solo play, safe sex rules still apply. Just like you’d want a partner to wash their hands before they touch a sensitive area, you want your toys to be as clean as possible before use.

Cleaning your toys is especially important if you’re using them with other people. Yes, toys can be shared between partners! However, they must be thoroughly cleaned before and after touching a new body. When sharing internal toys in particular, we recommend using a condom as an added safety precaution. Use a new condom and clean your toy each time it comes into contact with a new body part. For example, if you’re using Shine vaginally yourself, it needs to be cleaned before being used on your partner’s G-Spot or prostate.

We know getting up and cleaning your toys after use is the last thing on your mind in the heat of the moment, but it's a great habit to get into. Your future self will thank you.

So now you know the importance of cleaning your vibes, but how do you actually do it?

Here’s your step by step guide to cleaning your toys.

Step 1: Wash

Before use, wash your toys thoroughly with warm water and a gentle, fragrance-free soap. Rinse and pat dry with a towel, or leave to air dry on a clean surface. VUSH toys are fully waterproof, so running water is your best friend when it comes to cleaning.

Step 2: Play

This is the fun part, you get to use your toy! We bet you already know how.

Step 3: Wipe

If you just can’t seem to find the energy to get up and wash your toys (fair enough, you’ve just worked so hard), use our You Do You Intimate Care Wipes to wipe your toys clean. Our wipes are body-safe, so you can use them on yourself too.

Step 4: Spray

If you’re out of wipes, try our Clean Queen Intimate Accessory Spray. Simply spray your toys all over and wait until they’re dry. This is a great option if you’re saving the proper wash until the morning after.

Step 5: After Care

Repeat Step 1 - Warm water and gentle soap. To keep your toys clean, pack them away in your VUSH Storage Bag or Case. If they’re sitting naked at the back of your shelf or hidden under your bed, they might attract dust, so store them away properly to avoid nasties.

While you’re at it, chuck your toys on charge so they’re ready to go again tomorrow.
